Jummah Prayer at YWCA resumes January 18, 2008 |
Asalaamu Alaykum,
We would like to welcome the new students and the those who are returningrom a much needed break. InshAllah, Jummah prayers held at the YWCA 2600 Bancroft Way) will resume this Friday, January 18th. The first Adhan is at 1:15pm. We request that everyone perform their wudu ahead of time as the YWCA does not allow foot-washing in the sinks. Also, please keep the restrooms clean.
We are blessed to have Sh. Alaeddin El-Bakri delivering the khutbah this Friday, inshAllah.

Asalaamu Alaykum, InshAllah, the MSA will be celebrating Eid-ul-Adha this Wednesday, December 19. Arrangements have been made for salaat-ul-eid to be held in the Main Lounge at the YWCA located at 2600 Bancroft Way (cross stret Bowditch Ave.) The program will begin at 10:00am. Islam Awareness Week is a long-standing event in many MSA traditions. The goal of Islam Awareness Week is to inform non-Muslims and to remind Muslims about issues in Islam whether they be issues of beliefs, current events, or issues specific to certain interests such as history, business, medicine or politics. We are spreading this year's activities out over two weeks beginning Monday, November 5th and lasting until Jummah on Friday November 16th. The activities for the next two weeks can be found below and more detailed descriptions are on the events calendar: Monday Nov. 5th: "Sound Business: Islamic Financial Practices" 2060 VLSB at 7:30p.m. (Presented by the Muslim Business Students Association) Wednesday Nov. 7th: 2060 VLSB at 7:30p.m Thursday Nov. 8th: "Science in the Qur'an" 101 Moffitt at 7:30p.m Wednesday Nov. 14th: "Veiled by Politics: The Hijab Ban in France" 2040 VLSB at 7:30p.m. Thursday Nov. 15h: "Palestine: Situation in the Holy Land" 2040 VLSB at 7:30p.m. Friday Nov. 16th: Friday Congregational Prayers in the East Pauley Ballroom at 1:15p.m. We encourage everyone to attend these events and educate themselves about Islam. The mission of the Coalition for Peace Not Prejudice is to foster the ideals of peace, diversity, and unity within the student body of our esteemed educational institution. We want to achieve unity through diversity, realizing that despite having different cultures or religions, a common thread binds us all together-that of humanity. Through civil and educational discourse, we want to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere on campus for all students outside of the classroom.
With that in mind, Peace Not Prejudice Week will take place next week, October 22-26, 2007. The events we have planned are below:
*Monday, 10/22: Screening and Discussion of "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib", Alumni House, 7 pm "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib," an 80-minute HBO film, features the familiar and very disturbing pictures at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison and raises questions about U.S. government policy.
*Tuesday, 10/23: Unity through Diversity Open Mic Poetry Slam, Naia Lounge, 8:30 pm Open mic poetry night promoting religious tolerance and unity. Enjoy gelato and performances by a diverse group of poets.
*Wednesday, 10/24: The Common Thread: Similarities in the Abrahamic Religions, 101 Morgan, 7 pm Knowledgeable scholars discuss the similarities and differences between the three monotheistic religions during this educational event.
*Thursday, 10/25: Peace Rally, Upper Sproul, 5 pm Come out to see a multitude of diverse guest and student speakers including Rabbi Michael Lerner (Tikkun) and Basim Elkarra (CAIR) united in their call for peace, not prejudice. Free concert by hip-hop group Himalayan Project!

The MSA will be celebrating Eid Al-Fitr on Saturday, October 13. We ask Allah (swt) to accept all of our actions this Ramadan, to forgive us for our shortcomings, and to allow us to maintain our good deeds in the coming year. Eid prayer will be held on campus at 8:30 AM in 110 Wheeler. |
